KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd has identified several pages on Facebook that have misrepresented its CEO, Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift.
Bursa Malaysia has warned the public that those pages have no relation with Muhamad Umar nor the exchange and measures are being taken to remove them.
As the modus operandi of scam perpetrators continuously evolve, the exchange has urged the public to be wary and alert to investment or phishing scams while not forgetting to verify any web link or invitation to participate in any scheme.
In a statement issued today, it said this can be assessed in several ways, and are not limited to scrutinising the web address, consistency of historical posts, appropriateness of grammar or language style, and number of followers.
Various social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram as well as popular chat applications such as Whatsapp, Telegram and iMessage, have been used to lure unsuspecting members of the public to participate in dubious investment schemes or to sign up for giveaways.

Bursa Malaysia reminded members of the public to only invest with licensed investment professionals. Whenever in doubt, visit Bursa Academy at the address above for a list of licensed intermediaries and representatives.
To gain the right investment knowledge and tools in order to make informed decisions and identify fraudulent activities, members of the public are invited to visit Bursa Malaysia’s website www.bursamalaysia.com and related official microsites and social media channels.
