Naza Group completes acquisition of Berjaya Enviro, becomes key player in waste management

PETALING JAYA: Naza Corporation Holdings Sdn Bhd (Naza Group) has announced the completion of its acquisition of 100% stake in Berjaya Enviro Holdings Sdn Bhd (BEnviro), a prominent player in the waste management industry.

This acquisition presents a unique opportunity for Naza Group to venture into green economy, capitalising on growth opportunities in municipal solid waste, scheduled waste and waste-to-energy sectors.

The completion of the acquisition marked a significant milestone of Naza’s growth trajectory, and solidifies its position as a key player in Malaysia’s waste management sector.

The acquisition also involved Naza taking over seven entities under BEnviro, namely, BPJ-Berjaya Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Eco Services Sdn Bhd, Save the Sea Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Enviro Parks Sdn Bhd, Amita Berjaya Sdn Bhd, J&T Berjaya Alam Murni Sdn Bhd and Berjaya Energies Sdn Bhd.

According to SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin, Naza Group executive chairman, “Through this acquisition, Naza will be able to offer comprehensive solutions to meet Malaysia’s waste management needs, leveraging on the extensive operational infrastructure, technological advancements, and talented workforce of BEnviro and its seven subsidiaries.

“We recognise waste management as a cornerstone of the Green Economy, providing stable income streams unaffected by economic cycles. This acquisition reinforces Naza’s dedication towards strategic growth of its business reach – venturing into the provision of comprehensive waste management solutions and promoting environmental sustainability.”

Nasarudin said Naza Group has been exploring new sectors that align with its vision of sustainable development, resource efficiency, and upholding the highest standards of environmental stewardship.

“Waste management, a crucial aspect of Green Economy, which is expected to see a sizeable growth, perfectly aligns with our vision. Waste management businesses have predictable, steady income streams and the industry is non-cyclical in nature, both of which are key considerations for this acquisition,” he added.

Under its new waste management business, Nasarudin said, Naza will continue to operate the 659-acre integrated waste management eco park – the Bukit Tagar Enviro Park, which is one of the top sanitary landfills and integrated waste management eco parks in the country.

He added that the business includes landfill gas-to-energy operations, expanding capacity in the scheduled waste management sector.

“Our focus areas under this business include Municipal Solid Waste, Scheduled Waste, and Waste to Energy, prioritising environmental responsibility and longterm sustainability,” Nasarudin said.
